With five kids between us we are always on the hunt for a good timeout. A place that we can escape to and leave feeling, relaxed and recharged ready to return to the tasks of motherhood. Lucky for us, Oakville has an abundance of places to take them.
Our Top 5 Places for Moms to Take a Timeout in Oakville.
Known for their AH-MAZING coffee and delicious food, Kerr Street Café is ideal for a relaxing timeout by yourself or with friends. The weekend brunch is so popular, you will often find line-ups out the door. Should you be unable to go sans kids, don’t worry! It’s kid-friendly offering high-chairs, a kids menu, and our little ones favourite drink, The Fluffy (lukewarm hot chocolate in a pint sized mug topped with a giant marshmallow).
While you may not look forward to getting waxed, the minute you walk into WAXON you are greeted with such warmth and friendliness you almost forget why you’re there. We are serious when we say that this is one of our favourite timeouts. Their famous gold wax eliminates the pain you typically associate with waxing and you leave feeling smooth and confident. We consider our brow threading a mini face lift.
Noel and Heather are the dynamic duo behind Boffo’s Fine Foods. Upon entering, you are always greeted with the warmest smile. Boffo’s offers a large assortment of butchered meats, prepared salads/foods, and frozen prepared meals for the whole family to enjoy. It’s the perfect destination and timeout for when you need some dinner inspiration or a quick and easy prepared meal. Our kids are big fans of the meatballs, burgers, sausages and the eggplant lasagna. There is nothing we’ve tried we don’t like!
An awesome workout is our favourite way to spend a timeout. There’s no greater way to shake off the stresses of motherhood. We are big fans of Christine Fortier’s hot yoga class on Saturday mornings. Be prepared to sweat!
As much as we encourage moms to take time for themselves without the kids, that’s not always possible. One of our favourite Oakville destinations with kids are the impressive parks and waterfront. Grab a tea, pack some snacks, and find a park!
We typically land at our neighbourhood park but we make an effort to explore new parks at least once a week. It’s a timeout for moms and for kids. We get to enjoy the fresh air and let the kiddos run their sillies out. Best of all, we always end up connecting with moms, new and old. It gives us a chance to chat about mom life and ask advice and opinions on any parenting issues we’ve encountered in recent days. Some of our favourite parks include: Forster Park, Coronation Park, Lawson Park, and South Shell Park. Head to Oakville.ca for a complete listing of all the parks and trails in our fabulous town.
About The TimeOut Moms
We both grew up in Oakville, moved away and then returned to raise our families. We are two stay at home moms and neighbours with five kids between us. With our firstborns, we mommed ourselves into the ground and always felt guilty taking me time. We've learned our lesson. We take daily timeouts and we are better moms because of it. Even two minutes can make a huge difference. Happy me, happy we.
Christine is the proud mom of three girls. Liz is mom to two very silly boys. We have husbands and they are the first ones to encourage us to take a timeout.
