We’ve all been there, running around on a Saturday, drop off, pick up, drop off, pick up…. kid’s schedules can often rival that of most CEOs. They’re hungry, you’re hungry and those snacks you spent time on this morning for THIS very reason were (of course) left on the kitchen counter.
And so it begins the quest to find a bite, and hopefully a healthier one, that isn’t picked up via a window - within the weekend hustle, it's often nice to seat down together and take a bit of time to devote to a meal where someone else cleans the dishes.
We connected with some local Mamas for their recommendations plus a few of our own to bring you a round up our Top Picks for Kids Menus in Oakville -
b Good Canada– with two locations in Oakville, their menu was a nice surprise. With items including turkey or veggie burgers, sweet potato fries, grilled cheese on whole wheat bread and apple sauce and broccoli accompanying all meals, b Good Canada has several healthy options on offer. Kids smoothies and milkshakes are also featured.
Longo’s Corks Restaurant– only available at their Cornwall location, the upstairs Loft restaurant is truly a hidden gem. Our family has visited a few times now and it’s always very welcoming. The kids menu offers a couple of main options including stone oven pizza and chicken fingers – each comes with a choice of cupcake or fresh fruit for dessert (think a whole orange, apple or banana) and beverage. The regular menu is quite extensive with tacos, salads, burgers etc. *And for Mom or Dad, they have a Saturday Special – personal custom pizza plus a pint for $11.00.
Tavolo - while the two options above are more quick cafe style choices, Tavolo offers a traditional restaurant experience with wonderful pastas, pizzas and other Italian staples should you have a bit more time to devote to a sit down meal.
Swiss Chalet - If you have a picky eater and are looking to simply tame the masses, I'd recommend a stop at the local Swiss Chalet as you can incorporate the pizza or roasted chicken WITH the veggies (or at the very least attempt to). With our toddler I simply ask them to steam the veggies a bit longer and voila we have a happy camper.
Harper's Landing - I must admit I haven't had an opportunity to visit just yet, however this recommendation has come up a few times amongst the local Moms groups. They tell me they bring veggies and crackers to the table right after ordering - a nice touch when trying to calm hungry kiddos.
